"Kitne gun milte hain?" is usually the first question when a biodata arrives. The answer is a number out of 36 - but the number alone can mislead.
The bands
| Score | Traditional reading |
|---|---|
| Below 18 | Not recommended, unless doshas are cancelled |
| 18 - 24 | Average, acceptable |
| 25 - 32 | Very good |
| 33 - 36 | Excellent (rare) |
Not all points are equal
The 36 points come from eight kootas with very different weights: Varna 1, Vashya 2, Tara 3, Yoni 4, Graha Maitri 5, Gana 6, Bhakoot 7 and Nadi 8. Losing Varna and Vashya costs 3 points and matters little. Losing Nadi (8) or Bhakoot (7) is called a dosha and matters far more - so a 26 with Nadi dosha can be a bigger concern than a 19 without.
Dosha exceptions
Classical texts give cancellations (parihara):
- Nadi dosha is considered cancelled when both have the same rashi but different nakshatras, the same nakshatra but different rashis, or the same nakshatra in different padas.
- Bhakoot dosha is considered cancelled when the Moon signs' lords are the same or friends.
Many "low score, dosha present" matches turn out acceptable once exceptions are checked by a full kundli milan. The tracker flags the doshas so you know which profiles need that closer look.
Manglik
Manglik status (Mars in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house) is checked separately from the 36 points. If both are manglik, it is traditionally considered matched. Lagna-based manglik needs an accurate birth time.
Without a birth time
Guna milan uses the Moon, which moves slowly, so the score is usually right even without a time - unless the Moon changed nakshatra that day.
Perspective
Kundli matching is one input that many families value. Compatibility of values, communication, money and family expectations decide most marriages. The tracker shows the score next to your own notes for exactly that reason.
